Leaving from Skiathos, this wild route will take you to the greenest part of Greece, the Sporades, home of the National Marine Park and the Monk seal. Being the largest marine protected area in Europe, this chain of islands is full of gorgeous empty beaches with translucent emerald waters, rich in marine wildlife. Island hopping between the tranquil, laid-back Skopelos and Alonissos islands and the uninhabited Kira Panagia and Peristera is what you need to reconnect with nature and clear the mental clutter.
Discover the largest marine protected area in Europe and take a step back in time before mass tourism was a thing.
Skopelos - Extensive forests, a hypnotizing lush coastline and azure waters is what Skopelos is all about. The greenest island in the Aegean, filled with virgin pine forests and rich wildlife including the Monk seal makes it a true nature lover`s paradise. Beaches with translucent emerald waters like Ai Giannis Spilla, Megalo Peko, Flelia Neraki make the boats look like they`re floating. Home of the movie set of “Mamma Mia!”, Skopelos managed to preserve its Greek charm and natural beauty.
Alonissos - The Center of the National Marine Park, with crystal clear waters filled with diverse marine wildlife, Alonissos is a laid-back stunning island, perfect for snorkeling. Here you can have a taste of the Greek lifestyle before the mass-tourism boom, eating fresh fish and sipping on ice ouzo in an unpretentious atmosphere. Beaches in Alonissos like Gerakas, Milia and Kokkino Kastro, are surrounded by thick pine forests and crystal blue waters, painting a perfect desktop background.
Kira Panagia - Also a part of the Marine Sanctuary, mountainous and uninhabited, Kira Panagia is the definition of wild. The island is owned by the Monastery of Megisti Lavra and besides a few monks living here, its hills are still virgin and untamed. Emerald waters and marine wildlife can be found in abundance in the two shallow bays, Agios Petros and Plantinis, that were used at shelter by pirates in the Middle Ages.
Peristera - Like Kira Panagia, Peristera is a big part of the National Marine Park and the home of the Monk seal. There are only two houses on the 14.2 Km2 Island so its inhabitants are a few shepherds and the many goats grazing the bushy hills. Peristera is surrounded by emerald see-through waters that hide a merchant shipwreck from 400 B.C full of ancient amphorae, turned into an underwater museum in 2020.
